"Mapping the Future" is no easy task. NCTC has lined up several keynote speakers to help us address how to maximize our effectiveness in the coming years. See below for biographical information on all of our keynote speakers!
Dr. Robert (Bob) Giloth - Plenary Session, June 7
Robert Giloth is Vice President, Center for Family Economic
Success at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a private philanthropy dedicated to
helping build better futures for disadvantaged children in the United
States. Bob is responsible for planning
and integrating economic opportunity and place-based investments, including the
foundation’s workforce development agenda.
Prior to joining the Foundation in December 1993, Bob managed community development corporations in Baltimore and Chicago and was Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development under Mayor Harold Washington. Bob has a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University.

Journalist Gary Rivlin is the author of four previous books. His first, Fire on the Prairie: Chicago's Harold Washington and the Politics of Race, won the 1993 Carl Sandburg Award for Best Nonfiction, and his second book, Drive-By, was a New York Times notable book of the year and a finalist for a PEN-West award. He has worked as a staff reporter for The New York Times, where his beats included Silicon Valley and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and his work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Salon, Newsweek, and Wired, among other publications.

Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever - Afternoon Plenary Session, June 8
Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever is Executive Director at the National Council of Negro Women. Widely revered as an expert in the
fields of Race, Gender, Politics, and Policy, Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever has
devoted her professional life to examining how policies impact the lives of
women and communities of color while also seeking to advance effective programmatic
solutions to long-standing societal challenges. Her career spans stints at
several highly esteemed organizations including the Joint Center for Political
and Economic Studies, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and the
Institute for Women’s Policy Research.
Dr. Jones-DeWeever is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Virginia State University
and holds a Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland,
College Park where she studied under tremendous scholars such as Drs. Linda
Williams, Ronald Walters, and Clarence Stone. She has served as a
published author, public speaker, policy analyst, and strategist. Not a
stranger to high profile situations, Dr. Jones-DeWeever has appeared on
multiple major television and radio networks including CNN, C-SPAN, ABC, PBS,
NPR, Sirius/XM, BBC and American Urban Networks among others. She has
also been quoted in numerous major print publications including the Washington
Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Times and Essence and
Glamour magazines.
