Low-Income Tax Clinics
Partially funded by the IRS, Low-Income Tax Clinics (LITCs) provide: Representation in federal (and, in some cases, state) tax IRS disputes for free or for a nominal charge; Tax education and outreach for taxpayers who speak English as a second language. NCTC highly recommends, if possible, linking your free tax preparation program with a Low-Income Tax Clinic that can help resolve tax disputes or controversies that your clients may face.
Tax Clinic Referral Form
We recommend that all free tax preparation programs, if possible, link to a Low-Income Tax Clinic (LITC) or with a Taxpayer Advocate Service office to refer clients who need to resolve conflicts with the IRS or have IRS correspondence such as an EITC certification letter. This form is used at Center for Economic Progress free tax preparation sites to refer taxpayers to their Tax Clinic.
Tax Clinic Intake Form
A form used to collect vital information from the taxpayer, which includes personal contact information and a description of the state and/or federal tax problem that the taxpayer would like to address. Additionally, this document aids the Tax Clinic in determining if the taxpayer meets the income guidelines to obtain services from the Low Income Tax Clinic .
