American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

expired

NCTC strongly supported the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Our goal moving forward is to ensure the new, temporary benefits for low-income workers are made permanent.

Community-based practitioners and advocates for low-income workers have a responsibility to get educated on the ARRA, because it is likely to impact nearly all free tax preparation clients during the 2010 and 2011 filing seasons.

Did you know that in 2010:

  • Three million additional children will benefit from the Child Tax Credit
  • 7.7 million families will receive a larger Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) than they would have
  • Changes to the EITC will bring an additional $4 billion back to our communities
  • Low-income students and parents will be eligible for the American Opportunity Credit—the nation's first refundable education credit
  • Most workers will receive the fully refundable Making Work Pay Credit through their paychecks
