Treasury Dept. Announces Pilot Program on EITC Eligibility
Program will seek to identify ineligible EITC claimants and eligible individuals who do not claim the EITC through state data.
The
U.S. Treasury Department recently announced it will be initiating a
pilot program to compare benefits data from states on earned income tax
credit eligibility. The department's notice indicated that the pilot
program will be used to evaluate whether benefits data from states can
be used to identify EITC claimants who are ineligible for the credit and
eligible individuals who are not claiming the credit. According to the notice, the program will not seek to prevent ineligible individuals from claiming the EITC or file new claims for eligible individuals who are not claiming it.
