Our History

In 2002, NCTC was created due to the foresight of 22 leaders in the free tax preparation field who saw the need for a unified voice on tax policies and practices, as well as the need for technical assistance and training. NCTC is a subsidiary of the Center for Economic Progress in Chicago, IL where it continues to achieve its mission of improving the economic well being of low- and moderate-income individuals, families, and communities by building a movement to dramatically increase access to tax credits and benefits and asset-building opportunities.
